Yesterday dawned overcast and windy with the threat of rain. As the day progressed it got warmer, less windy and the rain never appeared and by 5:00 p.m. it was about 70. Kerith had a cleaning gal coming for the morning, four guys living in Burnbrae in June meant that the little things women see that need to get done never got done and a few of the big things really needed attention too. Byron's back is still bothering him so Kerith ran him into the chiropractor for a noon appointment. in Corbridge. The verdict is there is little that can be done, he has pinched a nerve time will heal it, in the meantime he is confined to the house till he feels much better. Byron is not arguing with me so I know he still has a good deal of pain.
Dave and Joe picked me up about 10:00 a.m. The face was mucked and timbered but new rail had to be laid so I spent the morning in the old Rat Hole area sifting and shifting debris to find the bottom of the pocket. Lots of small crystals and crystal shards but when I got to the bottom there were no pockets, to be sure I went down another foot of rock. So I learned something but got little done. I also left a big mess in the area that needs to be cleaned up. After lunch, Dave and Joe finished the mucking out of the east and west crosscuts started last year, when I get a chance I will wash them down and see what is there. On the west side it appears to become the zone that parallels the vein with the big blocks with crystals attached and various crush zones, the east side appears to have the same characteristics that the vein had when we encountered it several times before.... lots of quartz covered fluorite and a fair bit of galena. I reattached water lines and stared by hosing down the face on the west side where I encountered a fair large pocket of purple fluorites partially covered with drusy quartz, I believe I got to the middle point of the pocket by the time we needed to leave so I will attack that area again on Thursday. Since the pocket is still rather high I will need to make myself a platform to work from. Today's picture is of one piece shortly after it came out of the pocket and hosed off.
Thursday is supposed to be much like today but with the added bonus of rain in the forecast, we shall see.
Thatís all the news there is.
